The Radio Dictation of National Unity is a large-scale language flash mob and annual event that has united millions of Ukrainians around the world for over 20 years. It’s more than just a dictation — it’s a symbol of unity, a shared cultural space, and a celebration of love for the Ukrainian language.
Traditionally held to mark the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, celebrated every October, the Radio Dictation is written simultaneously in schools and universities, at home and in offices, in libraries, on trains, and even on the frontlines of the Russian–Ukrainian war.
The dictation’s authors and readers are prominent contemporary Ukrainian writers and cultural figures — their names are kept secret and revealed only on the eve of the event.
In previous years, the Radio Dictation gathered:
- over 7 million views,
- more than 45,000 letters with submitted texts,
- and participants from 58 countries around the world.
The Radio Dictation is broadcast across all Suspilne Ukraine platforms: Ukrainske Radio, Radio Kultura, Suspilne Kultura TV channel and the website, as well as on the Ukrainske Radio YouTube channel and Suspilne Ukraine Facebook page.
