The European Commission noted that Suspilne Ukraine continues to operate independently and build its audience, although state funding for the broadcaster remains below the level required by law. The Commission published its 2026 Ukraine Report on 4 November.
“Ukraine’s public broadcaster, Suspilne, continues to operate independently. Although it received a slight increase in state funding for 2026, but still below the legal requirement. Despite these constraints, Suspilne continued to build its audience and maintain a strong reputation for balanced and impartial coverage,” the report says.
Among its recommendations for the coming year, the European Commission called on Ukraine to “maintain adequate funding for the public service broadcaster, while ensuring that content produced by publicly funded media is representative of Ukraine’s political and societal pluralism.”
Svitlana Ostapa, Head of Suspilne’s Supervisory Board, said UAH 3.8 billion would be a fair level of funding for Suspilne Ukraine in 2027. On 28 October, Ukraine’s parliament passed the draft 2027 state budget at first reading. The draft allocates UAH 3.05 billion to Suspilne Ukraine.
Last year, the European Commission welcomed Suspilne’s stable funding and the transparent election of its Management Board chair.
