Boris Ruge, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine, and Felix Hegeler, Head of Press, visited Suspilne’s Kyiv office on 9 October. They saw the NewsHouse team at work and discussed Suspilne’s cooperation with European Broadcasting Union member broadcasters and DW Akademie, as well as ways to strengthen that cooperation.
Boris Ruge, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine, said:
“Here in Ukraine, the importance of independent journalism and solidarity in reporting is well understood. These same values are also upheld in Germany. It is a great pleasure to work with Suspilne. This partnership is an expression of solidarity and a shared commitment to the principles of free and independent journalism. And this path will be pursued consistently in the future.”
Mykola Chernotytskyi, Chair of the Suspilne Ukraine Managing Board, spoke about joint projects that Suspilne is implementing with support from DW Akademie.
“During the war, developing Suspilne Ukraine remains one of our greatest challenges. Our international partners, including DW Akademie, are helping us meet it. With their support, we have become one of the first European public service media organisations to develop and implement our own AI strategy. We are creating projects and educational programmes for teenagers and continuing to improve the work of our newsroom. We thank our German partners for their support and their readiness to work with us to develop independent public service media in Ukraine,” Mykola Chernotytskyi said.
As a reminder, with support from the EU-funded DW Akademie project “Strengthening Independent Media for a Strong Democratic Ukraine,” Suspilne has developed and is implementing an AI strategy and is improving its news production. Previously, with DW Akademie’s support, Suspilne carried out projects including “Who’s Talking About What”, a TikTok news format for teenagers; an interactive media literacy escape room; an educational school tour; the presentation of the “Brobaks” children’s app; and training for young people on artificial intelligence, digital security, identifying misinformation and conspiracy theories, memes as a propaganda tool, copywriting, and podcast creation, alongside many other projects.
Suspilne Ukraine is an independent media company with a strong presence across all platforms: the TV channels Pershyi, Suspilne Kultura, Suspilne Sport, and a national network of local channels; the radio stations Ukrainske Radio, Radio Promin, Radio Kultura, Radiotochka.
