The Public Media Academy in Lviv combines cutting-edge technology with a sense of historical continuity. That’s how DW Akademie’s Director of Media Development, Natascha Schwanke, described her impressions during a visit to the facility. Together with project managers Yulia Alekseeva and Olesia Pyshchur, she visited Suspilne’s Lviv branch on October 23.
During the visit, the guests explored the presentation area of the Public Media Academy, the broadcasting museum, the live television studio, and learned more about the archives and the Suspilne Mediateka platform.
«I am truly grateful for the opportunity to visit Suspilne in Lviv. I’m impressed by what the team has achieved — the transformation is tangible the moment you enter the building. It’s a high-tech, modern, and extremely professional space that still preserves its history. I met incredible people here — energetic, inspired, and highly skilled. Thank you for this inspiring experience!» — said Natascha Schwanke, DW Akademie’s Director of Media Development.
«We deeply value that the support from the DWA team has evolved into a partnership built on trust and mutual growth. Our wartime experience is not only about survival but about the strength of systems that serve society. It’s important for us to share our knowledge with other organizations to help them strengthen their own resilience», — said Mariya Frei, Member of the Managing Board of Suspilne Ukraine, responsible for news and regional broadcasting.
DW Akademie has been a long-term partner of Suspilne. The cooperation focuses on promoting media literacy, developing digital skills, and supporting educational initiatives for young audiences. Within this partnership, programs of the Children’s Public Media Academy were launched — interactive formats, including a “quest room,” aimed at teaching how to identify fake news, create quality content, and engage teenagers in media processes.
The Public Media Academy, founded in 2017, is an educational center with training and presentation spaces operating in Odesa and Lviv. It implements training programs with trainers from European media schools and international organizations such as Deutsche Welle Akademie, BBC Media Action, CFI, IREX, UN Women, the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian media experts.
Suspilne Ukraine is an independent media company with a powerful presence across all platforms: the TV channels Pershyi (First Channel), Suspilne Kultura, Suspilne Sport, and a national network of regional channels; as well as the radio stations Ukrainske Radio, Radio Promin, Radio Kultura, and Radiotochka. Only verified news is available on the website suspilne.media, as well as on national and regional digital platforms. Suspilne Ukraine broadcasts in the languages of national communities, represents Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest, develops the children’s platform “Brobaks”, and trains media professionals at the Public Media Academy. We also operate Suspilne Mediateka — a platform of unique video and audio content from the 1920s to today. We defend freedom in Ukraine.
