Suspilne Ukraine announced that Ukraine will take part in the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, which will be hosted by Bulgaria.
Ukraine will hold its National Selection amidst a complex security situation and the potential challenges of the winter period. Under these circumstances, we will do everything possible to ensure that Ukrainian performers can present their songs and that the viewers can choose the artist who will best represent Ukraine on Europe’s biggest music stage. Vidbir will provide an opportunity for the community to come together to support Ukrainian culture and young artists, because Ukraine’s participation in the contest will serve as an important tool for cultural diplomacy.
“Eurovision today is an extremely important tool for direct interaction with hundreds of millions of Europeans. For Ukraine participation in the contest is primarily about subjectivity, the protection of cultural sovereignty and the opportunity to keep Ukrainian context in the global spotlight right up until the very end. At the same time the format of the National Selection will be changed and developed taking into account safety risks and potential challenges during the winter period,” mentioned Mykola Chernotytskyi, Head of the Managing Board of Suspilne Ukraine.
“Only by remaining active participants in the European space can we share our messages with the world and encourage cooperation and support. That way, we make our musical contribution to Europe’s musical diversity and showcase our own artistic identity. From at least March to May, the music world discusses the entries and songs from the participating countries. This is the platform on which Ukraine’s voice must be heard,” commented Oksana Skybinska, Head of the Ukrainian Eurovision delegation.
