On October 31, the online course “Journalism 360: Tools and Techniques from Suspilne” became publicly available on the Prometheus platform. The course is free of charge and a true must-have for media professionals of all experience levels, active citizens, and anyone eager to understand journalism through professional standards.

Previously, access to the course was limited to candidates for Suspilne’s hyperlocal journalist program. The curriculum includes six modules: journalism standards, fact-checking and information verification, storytelling and content planning, filming and editing, journalist safety, and the use of artificial intelligence.

Among the trainers are Khrystyna Havryliuk, Angelina Kariakina, Yevheniia Motorevska, Alla Skoryk, Anna Pohrebna, Oleksii Matskevych, Viacheslav Mavrychev, and Anastasiia Korinovska from Suspilne Ukraine. The module on AI use was co-developed with experts from Swedish RadioOlle Zakrisson, Anna Ims, Kalle Kovach, and Josefin Sandstedt.

Participants of the training highlight its practical approach and accessibility.

Maiia Kovinchuk from Kryzhopil, Vinnytsia region, shares:

“The modules, tests, and practical tasks allow not only to try yourself in journalism but also to test your skills and knowledge. For easier learning, examples of reports, features, interviews, and photo stories are provided. Everything is clear and accessible. It’s very important that this course includes a module on journalist safety. I recommend everyone to take this course by Suspilne Ukraine — it can be the start of real change in life.”

Antonina Hlushchenko from Malyn, Zhytomyr region, said the course opened up new formats and approaches to journalism for her — and she already applies the storytelling section in her work.

“I worked mostly with texts for a long time, and now I see how much journalism has changed. There are so many new formats, tools, and approaches,” says Antonina. “The materials are presented clearly, with examples. The lectures are short, which is nice. There are many of them, of course, but they’re easy to follow. I especially liked the storytelling module — I already use this knowledge. People love reading about others, about those nearby.”

Iryna Shundrii from Novodnistrovsk, Chernivtsi region, adds that the course can help even experienced journalists organize their knowledge, master ethical and legal aspects, and gain practical fact-checking skills.

“The course from Suspilne Ukraine is a large, well-structured knowledge base that provides excellent preparation. Even with previous experience as a correspondent, I learned a lot of useful information — ethics, standards, legal aspects. I already apply practical fact-checking skills, reliability analysis, and accurate online search algorithms in my work.”
