As part of expanding its network of international partnerships, Suspilne Ukraine hosted representatives of NOVACT (the International Institute for Nonviolent Action) at its Kyiv headquarters. During the meeting, both teams presented their key areas of work and discussed potential avenues for future cooperation.

For NOVACT, Ukraine is currently one of the key strategic priorities in the development of its new five-year strategy. The organisation views Ukraine as a source of valuable experience in civic resistance and community resilience that can offer important lessons for Europe as a whole.

“Media outlets operating in frontline regions are one of the pillars of Ukraine’s resilience. Every day, local journalists work under extraordinary circumstances to ensure that people continue to have access to reliable information. Their work is essential for strengthening the resilience of local communities. It was a great honour for us to meet with the Suspilne team during our visit to Ukraine and discuss opportunities for future cooperation,” said Luca Gervasoni, Director of NOVACT.

For its part, the Suspilne team shared its experience of maintaining and developing the company during the full-scale war, highlighting the crucial role of its regional network and the importance of preserving editorial independence.

“Suspilne Ukraine has the largest network of regional branches and hyperlocal correspondents in Ukraine, including in frontline areas. This gives us a deep understanding of the needs of local communities and allows us to see how essential quality, reliable information is to their resilience. We value the opportunity to exchange experience with NOVACT and explore joint solutions in the areas of information resilience, countering disinformation, and supporting local journalism,” said Mykola Chernotytskyi, Head of the Managing Board of Suspilne Ukraine.

During the discussion, participants identified several priority areas for future cooperation. These include information resilience, countering disinformation, support for local journalism, youth engagement, and the implementation of joint international projects. Both organisations will continue their dialogue to define the first practical steps towards collaboration.
