Suspilne Ukraine has approved an AI Strategy* outlining how the company will work with artificial intelligence over the next two years: the priorities it will pursue, the principles it will follow, and the processes it will put in place. The document was approved by the Managing Board of Suspilne on 3 August.
Artificial intelligence is already changing how people access and consume news. In response to these changes, Suspilne Ukraine is systematically introducing AI where it can help streamline teams’ work, create useful products for audiences, and establish shared approaches to its use across Ukrainian media.
“The AI Strategy for Suspilne Ukraine is a logical continuation of the company’s systematic approach to using AI internally. In May, Suspilne initiated the creation of the Artificial Intelligence Alliance, which brought together leading Ukrainian media outlets and media organisations. Today, we are working not only on internal tools but also on how the state and the media market as a whole can responsibly regulate and use artificial intelligence,” said Mykola Chernotytskyi, Head of Managing Board at Suspilne Ukraine.
Suspilne’s approach is to use AI as a tool that strengthens public-interest journalism rather than replacing or weakening it.
“Artificial intelligence will fundamentally change how we produce and consume news. Suspilne should set an example for all of Europe and for European public service media by demonstrating that AI can be used as an effective tool to strengthen trust and expand our audience reach. AI brings not only risks but also significant opportunities,” said Dmytro Khilchenko, Member of the Managing Board of Suspilne Ukraine responsible for production and technology.
To implement the strategy, Suspilne Ukrainе has established the Department of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence, headed by Lora Yaremchuk.
“Our strategy is a roadmap through June 2028 that answers the question of how to ensure artificial intelligence serves Suspilne’s mission rather than works against it. The entire strategy is focused on one overarching goal: strengthening reliable journalism. We will create internal tools to improve team efficiency, develop products for audiences, and build partnerships to protect the interests of media in their engagement with the state and technology platforms,” said Lora Yaremchuk, Director of the Department of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence at Suspilne Ukrainе.

Key areas of Suspilne’s AI Strategy
Suspilne Ukrainе will develop internal AI tools for news and production planning, verification, transcription, voice-over, archive management, and content creation. The newsroom will be the first to test the new solutions. Each tool will undergo an assessment of editorial, ethical, security, and reputational risks.

For audiences, the strategy provides for the development of a content recommendation system, personalised news feeds, data visualisation tools, and a conversational AI agent called Ask Suspilne. Suspilne will also further develop the C2PA standard, structured metadata, and other solutions to help AI systems find verified materials and correctly attribute their sources.

A separate area of work will focus on partnerships with Ukrainian media, the European Broadcasting Union, government institutions, technology platforms, and civil society. Priorities include protecting intellectual property, countering disinformation, verifying content, and ensuring that media interests are reflected in national AI policy.
A principle running throughout the entire strategy is that people must always remain in control of the process. AI will be used transparently, with safeguards for data, copyright, and editorial standards.
