In an interview for the September issue of Tech-i, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) magazine dedicated to media technology and innovation, Dmytro Khilchenko, member of the managing board of Suspilne Ukraine, responsible for production and technology, spoke about the transformation of Suspilne’s production and technology operations, the history behind the NewsHouse multimedia complex, the challenges facing public service media, and the future of media technologies.
“My main task today is to unite disparate production and technology departments into a common logical process where the production department will help creative staff to transform ideas into content with the help of equipment and software, provided by the technology department, running on common infrastructure based on DMF (Dynamic Media Facility) architecture. To achieve that, we are currently undergoing a big transformation that is affecting 2,000 people in the company,” Dmytro said in the interview, describing the ongoing changes at Suspilne Ukraine.
He also shared his perspective on the most difficult challenges facing EBU members today:
“The greatest challenge for EBU Members is to remain trusted, independent and relevant in an age of unprecedented turbulence. Truth, democratic values and public good are increasingly threatened by manipulation, misinformation and polarization. Public service media must remain a trustworthy shared space for verified facts, diverse voices and meaningful debate. Our challenge is not simply to defend this mission, but to strengthen it through unity, innovation and taking collective action to protect media freedom and democracy.”

Dmytro Khilchenko joined the Suspilne Ukraine board in October 2025 as the board member responsible for production and technology. He previously worked at Suspilne from 2009 to 2018, serving as general producer of digital platforms. During that time, he became one of the initiators of the company’s digital transformation, established its first digital teams, and launched content production for online platforms.
In June 2026, Dmytro Khilchenko was also elected to the EBU Technical Committee for the 2026–2028 term.
