The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided modern technical equipment to the Suspilne Dnipro team, which resumed offline operations in a rented space following a Russian attack on the branch’s building in November 2025. This will allow the team to optimize production processes and improve the speed of reporting on events in the region.
Svitlana Ostapa, Head of the Supervisory Board of Suspilne Ukraine, expressed her gratitude to the Japanese government and JICA for their support:
“Thank you for your constant assistance to Suspilne during the russian-ukrainian war. We have not stopped working, despite all the dangers. Much credit for this goes to both the Japanese government and JICA. Last month, Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, visited Dnipro and saw what had happened to our branch. But we are not giving up. We continue to work, providing Ukrainians and the world with reliable information about the war in Ukraine and our struggle.”
The equipment for Suspilne Dnipro was handed over by Shota Suzuki, Senior Representative of the JICA Office in Ukraine, and Naoki Takyo, an office representative.
“We sincerely hope that this modest contribution from JICA will help improve the efficiency of content production at Suspilne Dnipro and support your continued mission to deliver reliable information to the public. JICA remains committed to continuing our support for Suspilne,” commented Shota Suzuki.
JICA has been a reliable partner of Suspilne Ukraine for many years. During the full-scale invasion, the agency’s support is particularly important, as it enables Suspilne Ukraine not only to overcome the consequences of russian aggression but also to continue developing.
“We are grateful for the quick response and assistance — this allows our journalists to continue their work even under very difficult conditions. Our cooperation is expanding, and we highly value this partnership,” said Mykola Chernotytskyi, Head of the Managing Board of Suspilne Ukraine.
The equipment was received by branch manager Kateryna Lysiuk and editor-in-chief Yevhen Pedashenko from the Suspilne Dnipro team.
Following the attack by russian drones last November, the entire Suspilne Dnipro team never stopped working for a single moment and continued to operate remotely; the move to rented premises has allowed them to resume full operations. The branch manager and editor-in-chief emphasized that the new equipment from JICA will help optimize production processes and enable the team to continue fulfilling its mission—providing the public with timely and verified information, despite all the challenges of wartime. In particular, the team will be able to expand the news editors’ editing stations.
“Our entire Suspilne Dnipro team is sincerely grateful to our Japanese partners for their personal support of our branch following the tragedy we experienced in November 2025. Given the regular shelling of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, this equipment will allow us to be more energy-independent; regardless of any external factors, we will continue to work for our viewers/readers/listeners and report timely information from Dnipro and the region,” noted Kateryna Lysiuk.
“After the building was hit, we faced serious problems with our equipment, particularly our editing gear, which, in turn, affected our workflow. We received help from colleagues at other branches, including videographers and editors from other regions. Eventually, we managed to assemble editing stations on our own, literally piece by piece, using the surviving equipment. New equipment from our Japanese partners will allow us to work much faster and with higher quality, edit materials, and quickly get them on the air,” added Yevhen Pedashenko.
In total, JICA donated the following items to Suspilne Ukraine today: Apple MacBook Pro laptops, 27-inch monitors, Bluetti charging stations, USB-C hubs, and SSD drives.
As a reminder, last November, representatives of Suspilne Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement on the third phase of the “Capacity Development Project for the Public Broadcaster of Ukraine.” The new phase continues the long-term cooperation between Ukraine and Japan aimed at modernizing Suspilne’s technical infrastructure and developing its team.
